Bachelor of music
Jappe Dendievel (2004°) started with music lessons at the age of 4. At the age of 7 he started playing bassoon, trombone and percussion.
Only 10 years old, he was invited to participate in the Ghent Bassoon Festival where he had classes with Pieter Nuytten.
He was laureate in various competitions, such as the Vlamo Competition and the eMuse online competition where he received three first prizes. He was therefore invited to play at the Gyzi Megaron Festival in Santorini, Greece. Andrea Ferrante saw Jappe’s recording of his ‚La Danza Sconessa‘ and is currently writing a piece for bassoon and orchestra, which will be decicated to Jappe.
Since the age of 10, Jappe played in many youth orchestras in the Netherlands and
Belgium, such as the Euregio Youth Orchestra, where he was principal trombone from
2016-2020. With this orchestra he played in prestigious halls such as the Golden Hall in Vienna. In 2018 he joined the Antwerp Youth Orchestra, with which he has performed major symphonic works like Shostakovich’s fifth symphony, and Rachmaninov’s second symphony. He also played solo with various orchestras, playing concerti by Mozart, Weber and Vivaldi.
In 2016, he started bassoon lessons with Francis Pollet in the music academy of Lier. Jappe was part of the I SOLISTI Youngstars, a program helping young musicians in their development. After four years as YoungStar, he will continue his collaboration with I SOLISTI, as Next Generation Artist. This gives him opportunities to follow masterclasses with internationally renowned bassoonists like Sergio Azzolini and Gustavo Nuñez. As Next Generation Artist he also often plays in professional productions of the I SOLISTI ensemble.
He has followed masterclasses with many professors such as Sophie Dervaux, Simon Van
Holen, Gordon Fantini, Audun Halvorsen, Fredrik Ekdahl, Sergio Azzolini, Gustavo Nuñez, Henrik Rabien and Graziano Moretto. Since 2018 he studies bassoon (with Francis Pollet) and contrabassoon (with Filip Neyens) at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.
In March 2019 he was selected for Concergebouworkest Young, where he, together with 72 other young musicians, participated in a program giving him major musical opportunities such as performing Tchaikovsky’s fifth symphony in the world renowned ‚Concertgebouw‘ in Amsterdam, under the baton of Pablo Heras Casado. The next year, in 2020, he was accepted into the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra, where he has worked with internationally renowned musicians such as James Gaffigan, Lola Descours, Aleksandar Tasic, Fabien Thouand and Zofia Neugebauer.
In 2021 he won the first prize in the Princess Christina Competition, with his performance of
Marcel Bitsch’s concertino. Since he won the first prize, he has played recitals in Amsterdam, The Hague and more.
Since November 2021 he is principal bassoonist at Casco Phil, the Chamber Orchestra of Belgium.
